One of the more difficult fundamentals for young players to get comfortable with is the hockey stop. A major problem area is that players like to try and stay on their inside edges the entire time which actually creates more of a turn.

Here are a few things to try:

  • have players stand still with feet in neutral position and just swivel the hips and feet back and forth.
  • when adding movement have players go very slow and speed up as they become more comfortable.
  • keep the feet in a neutral position right under the shoulders.
  • turn the head, shoulders, and feet while staying in the neutral position.
