A slip (or hook) pass has become a great offensive skill. It is a great skill to use against a defensemen trying to go stick on puck. The skill requires the player to extend the puck out on their forehand and use the curve of their stick as a "hook" to slip it around the opponents stick. In this clip there is a great slip pass by Barbashev and great net drive by Marchessault.

What to Watch

  • As Barbashev enters the zone his eyes are up to scan the ice for support.
  • He realizes he has support and buys time by getting to his inside edges and extending the puck to his forehand to keep the puck away from the defender.
  • This allows Marchessault time to drive the net.
  • Barbashev uses a slip pass to pass around the defenders stick.
