Deception has become a key factor in scoring at the highest levels because the goaltending is so good. A good deceptive move will freeze the goalie and hopefully give the shooter more time to release the shot with the goalie out of position. Sergachev does an excellent job here in this clip which gives Stamkos a chance to score, even from a bad angle.

What to Watch

  • When Sergachev receives the puck he becomes a threat by moving lower into the slot, the Red Wings' goalie has to resect him simple off his position.
  • Sergachev hold the puck in attack position with the puck off his hip and his eyes and toes pointing towards the net.
  • Once the defender bites and goes down to block the shot he slides it over to Stamkos.
