Here is a great example of how some of the best players execute a one-timer on their off-hand. In this case Aho one-times it past Saros on the power play.

What to Watch

  • Notice the position of the stick blade, it is perpendicular to the direction the puck is going and flat on the ice.
  • This allows more of the stick blade to make contact with the puck and get more "wood" on the shot.
  • His bottom hand slides down the shaft to help give him leverage and strength on the stick off a hard pass.
  • His hand are away from his body.
  • He also adjusts his body as needed by almost going down on his left knee to make sure his stick blade is flat on the ice.
