once a week. good drill for backchecking.
Good drill capturing the 4 elements mentioned above. Game like situation! Sharing a variation- "One puck continuous 3v2" 3F's do a quick re-group with 2D's. The F's attack after the regroup vs 2 other D's. The D's who started the regroup move to the offensive blue line. The goal of the F's is to move the attack low below the dots, cycle. give n go, find a soft stop basically out number the D's for quality scoring chances. Three new F's take breakout positions once the attack reaches the circles. RULES. The D's at the point can not be part of the offense. If a puck goes to them they send it back low. The new breakout F's can not help defend. The goal is to support and make themselves available for the D's and break out beating the back checkers up the ice, attack low and generate scoring opportunities. The initial F's who started the attack must back check and get the puck back before the red line. If they re-gain possession they go back 3v2, if they don't they are done. The D's who were defending must move up the ice to support their breakout. If the play gets past the red line they are also done. If the back check is successful they will need to defend again. Replacing players- F's done if no back check. New F's to Break out positions once the attack gets into the circles. D's who defended and started break out are done once the play gets over the red line. 2 new D's get to the offensive blue line. Emphasis, F's Low attack, out number out work D's. Transition to Back check. F's get available for breakout D's make a play and find the safe outlet. D's hold the blue line, defend the red line, tight gaps If a goal is scored, reward the F's by re-starting with low possession.
