This defensive zone face off requires the center to win the face off to the defense lined up on the boards. Ideally, the puck ends up slightly behind the defense to give them a great advantage to the puck over the opponent they are lined up against. The defense carries the puck behind the net and passes to LW who has come back to the hash marks, or is flying the zone. RW lines up on the outside post like they are going to go out the point when the puck drops, but really they are going to skate intot the face off dot to help if needed before flying the zone. LW is lined up slightly behind LD and when the puck is dropped, they will cut behind RW and fly the zone looking for the outlet pass from RD.
