The Bump Pass & Attack The Net Drill helps players practice cycling, bump passes, and attacking the net quickly.

Setup

  • Set the net up in the corner of the offensive zone.
  • Coach spots a puck off to the side of the net and F1 goes up the wall away from the net.
  • F2 fills in behind to receive a bank pass from F1.
  • F2 picks up the bump pass and attacks the net immediately and tries to score.
  • The coach then spots another puck on the other side of the net and player F2 picks it up with F3 (next in line) filling in behind him.
  • F2 banks to F3 and F3 attacks the net trying to score.
  • Drill continues back and forth from side to side.

Coaching Points

  • Players that are banking the puck off of the boards should make sure the puck does not rest along the boards and has enough space away from the boards so it is easy to puck up.
  • Players that pick the puck off of the wall should work to attack the net quickly.
