The overload power play is one of the more popular systems to run because so many options can develop once it is set up.  This diagram is one of the many options available that can be run from both sides of the ice. In this set up, two key points are: F1 should be right handed if possible, and D1 should be left handed if possible (running this power play from the other side will require the opposite).

The main idea is to get F1 into a good shooting position in the high slot by sucking the top penalty killer out to D1.  Once D1 has the penalty killer sucked in, he passes to F1, who exploits the seam created by the out of position penalty killer.  F2 & F3 have to recognize this and create havoc in front of the net when they know the shot is coming.
