The goal of this drill is to emphasize the importance of the winger on the boards attacking the seam.  This situation occurs often when running an overload or umbrella power play.  The forward passes the puck to the defense at the blue line.  The defense needs to become a threat by working their way as far to the middle of the ice as possible.  The forward works their way up the boards just above the face off circle to provide an outlet for the defense.  The defense has two options.  If they can make it to the middle of the ice with a clear shot, they take the shot.  The other option is to give the puck back to the forward on the boards.  When the forward receives the puck they have to attack the seam as fast as possible to create a good shot from the high slot.  Th forward coming out of the other corner needs to create a screen in front or make themself available for a tip.
