Changing Your Shot Angle While Skating diagram

A basic shooting exercise that helps players dial in their technique to change their shot angle while they are skating.

If players are struggling to perform this skill, have them skate slower. As they get more comfortable, increase skating pace and increase the distance in the angle change.

Variations:

  • Shoot from different areas of the ice.
  • Shoot around different objects.

Why is it beneficial to change your shot angle?

  • It confuses goaltenders and is harder for them to save the puck. It also can help players shoot around defenceman's sticks and shinpads.
