Speed Series #3 - races
Skating Drills
Tuesday, 19 May 2009 14:41

This ice hockey drill will increase the level of intensity in the skating drills. A little competition never hurts and usually motivates players to go faster than doing the drills by themselves.

This ice hockey drill starts on the whistle. Two players, one from each corner race around the top of the circle, then the bottom of the circle. As the players come out of the second turn the coach throws a puck out to center ice for the players to chase. Remind players to not give up if they are not first one to puck.

Similar to the first two skating drills, make sure players are rested. This is not a drill to work on stamina or anaerobic endurance, the focus is speed and players can only build their foot speed when they are 100%.
